About Gaya

Our Story

GAYA Agro LTD. (“Gaya”) was incorporated 10 years ago in South-Central Bulgaria, in the villages in and around the town of Septemvri, Pazardzhik Region.

Gaya’s activities currently include the production of cereals, oil crops and field vegetables such as tomatoes.

Agriculture in Bulgaria

Area: 110,879 Square Km.

Arable land: 31.81% (35,000 Square Km.)

236,208 dekars of irrigated land (out of which 116,870 are rice paddies)

In South-Central Bulgaria 58,336 dekars (second biggest area in Bulgaria) is irrigated out of which 14,182 dekars are corn fields

No shortage of water

Approximately 10 million registered owners of agricultural land in Bulgaria

On-going land consolidation which will lead to higher yields and revenues per hectare as large-scale farmers are able to invest in equipment, fertilizer and infrastructure

More than 20 million independent plots scattered in the country.

Consolidated agricultural land is 30-50% more expensive than non-consolidated land

Bulgaria produces 6 million tons wheat, 3.5 million tons maize, 2 million tons sunflower (7th in the world)

Existing infrastructure for irrigation in certain regions. Requires heavy investment in renovation and maintenance

EU subsidies available to farmers if they process at least one hectare of agricultural land. Currently approx. BGN 32 per Dekar.

Regulatory improvements give advantage to the largest land cultivators in single area by allowing them to cultivate the non- cultivated land (“White Spots”)
